My Commute To Derry

 Hey everyone!

Welcome back to my blog! I've decided to focus this post on my commute itself. As I commute to university, it leaves me having an early start to my day and sometimes i can be home quite late in the evening depending on my timetable. My commute has basically turned into part of my routine at this point. I get up around two hours before I need to leave, mostly so I’m not rushing around and so I have time to actually wake up before getting into the car. I always give myself roughly two hours for the drive as well, just in case there’s traffic, roadworks or something random going on along the way.

The extra time usually means I can stop for a coffee, which is almost always an oat flat white, and sometimes I’ll get an açai bowl if I’m in the mood. Small treats make the drive a bit easier, especially on early mornings.

Most days I take the A5 through Tyrone to get to campus. It’s the route I’m most used to and normally the quickest. On the way home I sometimes go through Dungiven instead. It’s a straighter road, which feels nicer to drive, but it usually adds a bit of extra time. Still, it’s a good change every now and then.

One thing I definitely notice is the cost. Travelling to and from campus every day isn’t cheap and fuel adds up a lot faster than you’d expect. It’s definitely one of the downsides to commuting.

With Christmas coming up, I’ll probably start leaving earlier in the mornings. Derry gets much busier around that time with people out shopping and the traffic can be unpredictable. The last thing I need is to be stuck behind a queue of cars when I’m already cutting it close.

Overall, the commute can be long and a bit draining some days, but having a routine makes it more manageable. At this point it’s just part of getting to uni and getting on with it.

Thanks for reading:)
