My Daily Derry Routine
Hey everyone, welcome back! If you have been following along, you’ll know that moving to Derry has been a big but brilliant change for me. In this post, I thought I’d chat about something that’s now a big part of my uni life: the commute, the campus and of course, Guapo.
As i travel to and from campus, my days start earlier. At the beginning it felt like more of a task, but I've grown to start enjoying the early mornings as it sets you up for the day. On my way up to Derry I usually stop for a coffee, which is a well needed energy boost! As I travel from County Tyrone I take the A5 road to Derry. The A5 can test your patience as there is always either road works or traffic, however I do still enjoy the journey even if I still have to leave a little extra time for my drive.
One thing I’ve really appreciated is how easy the Magee campus is to navigate. Everything is close enough that you aren’t in a panic between classes, and you quickly get to know where everything is. As well as the lay out of the campus itself, I find other students and staff are as friendly as can be, giving the campus a more relaxed and approachable feel! I find this as such a relief as I had transferred from a different university into a class i was completely unfamiliar with!
Derry offers plenty of places to grab a quick lunch, but i always find myself at Guapo. Guaop is a fresh mexican not far from campus! It offers the most affordable yet tasty burritos. I would even argue that it is better than Boojum, which i thought could never be topped.
Even with commuting to campus, I still try to enjoy the nightlife of Derry! Every monday the big student night out is Goat Mondays in the Thirsty Goat. It’s always busy, lively, and a good way to start the week after a day of class.
So thats really been my new routine since my big move to Derry. Early starts, the A5, straightforward campus days, and regular Guapo stops. Nothing overly dramatic, just a rhythm that works, and one I’ve settled into pretty quickly.
More coming soon!
