My Introduction Blog

Hey everyone, my name is Emma! I am from Galbally a small place in the middle of County Tyrone. I am 20 years old and currently in my second year of Marketing in Ulster University. However, I did not start my studies here at Ulster University! I started my studies off across waters all the way over in Liverpool. I loved the city, the atmosphere, the people, the nights out, everything. After an adventurous year of living over in the city of Liverpool I had a change of heart and decided to pack it in and return to home. I am going to aim to base my blog around my transition from University life in Liverpool, a buzzing city with crazy nightlife and chaos to Derry, a smaller homely city with a big heart.

In fairness, I did love Liverpool but I started to think carefully about what would be best for me academically and personally. That’s when I decided to make the move to Derry to continue my Marketing degree. It wasn’t an easy decision at first, moving somewhere new always comes with doubts. However it’s turned out to be such a good choice. Derry is a great city, it feels close knit and has a strong community surrounding it. The people here are genuinely friendly, and it didn’t take long before I started to feel at home.

I find Derry to be an extremely student friendly city. It has a lot to offer such as cafes, nightlife and Guapo for an amazing burrito, while being affordable too! As well as this, academically, the smaller classes have made a big difference too. It’s easier to get to know your lecturers and actually feel part of things, rather than just another face in a big lecture hall.

Looking back, I’m really glad I made the move. Liverpool will always mean a lot to me, but Derry has given me a fresh start, and I’m genuinely enjoying where I am now. I have a lot more to write about Derry itself and cant wait to share!
