The City Life

 Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! Today I'm going to chat about the city itself. Derry is one of those places that doesn’t feel bland. Even if you’re only in the city for classes, you pick up on its character fast. It’s not huge, which helps as a student because you can actually get around without planning your whole day around buses. The centre feels active enough that it doesn’t feel like uni life is separated from the city. You can go for food, meet people, or just walk about without it being a big mission. The history is hard to miss, mainly because it’s literally built into the place. The Walls are the obvious example. They don’t feel like some distant attraction, they’re just part of the city. You’ll be walking to wherever and suddenly you’re right beside them. They make the centre feel like it has a proper shape to it, like the city has a core rather than just a spread of streets. My Commute To Derry

 Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog! I've decided to focus this post on my commute itself. As I commute to university, it leaves me having an early start to my day and sometimes i can be home quite late in the evening depending on my timetable. My commute has basically turned into part of my routine at this point. I get up around two hours before I need to leave, mostly so I’m not rushing around and so I have time to actually wake up before getting into the car. I always give myself roughly two hours for the drive as well, just in case there’s traffic, roadworks or something random going on along the way. The extra time usually means I can stop for a coffee, which is almost always an oat flat white, and sometimes I’ll get an açai bowl if I’m in the mood. Small treats make the drive a bit easier, especially on early mornings. Most days I take the A5 through Tyrone to get to campus. It’s the route I’m most used to and normally the quickest. My Daily Derry Routine

Hey everyone, welcome back! If you have been following along, you’ll know that moving to Derry has been a big but brilliant change for me. In this post, I thought I’d chat about something that’s now a big part of my uni life: the commute, the campus and of course, Guapo. As i travel to and from campus, my days start earlier. At the beginning it felt like more of a task, but I've grown to start enjoying the early mornings as it sets you up for the day. On my way up to Derry I usually stop for a coffee, which is a well needed energy boost! As I travel from County Tyrone I take the A5 road to Derry. The A5 can test your patience as there is always either road works or traffic, however I do still enjoy the journey even if I still have to leave a little extra time for my drive.  One thing I’ve really appreciated is how easy the Magee campus is to navigate. Everything is close enough that you aren’t in a panic between classes, and you quickly get to know where everyth...

Dear Derry Brief

Hey everybody!  Welcome back for my second blog. If you read my introduction post you will know I recently made a big move from the big city of Liverpool back to Ireland, and I am now studying in Derry! I thought for this blog I’d chat a bit more about what settling in here has actually been like, the highs and lows and ofcourse the wee comforts of what has made Derry feel so homily.  When I first thought of Derry, I wasn’t sure if anything could compete with Liverpool’s buzz. Liverpool has so much to offer from the nightlife, the shopping to the famous docks. There was always madness throughout the city. However, I soon realised although Derry may not be as full of madness, the city has its own energy, a warm and familiar feel. Hey everyone, my name is Emma! I am from Galbally a small place in the middle of County Tyrone. I am 20 years old and currently in my second year of Marketing in Ulster University. However, I did not start my studies here at Ulster University! I started my studies off across waters all the way over in Liverpool. I loved the city, the atmosphere, the people, the nights out, everything. After an adventurous year of living over in the city of Liverpool I had a change of heart and decided to pack it in and return to home. I am going to aim to base my blog around my transition from University life in Liverpool, a buzzing city with crazy nightlife and chaos to Derry, a smaller homely city with a big heart.
